HOMEMADE ECZEMA CREAM/SKIN MOISTURIZER — Source: The Thrifty Couple

HOMEMADE ECZEMA CREAM/SKIN MOISTURIZER

Items needed:

  • 1/4 cup of oats
  • 3/4 cup of coconut oil
  • Few drops of rosemary oil {optional}
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil

Recipe:

  1. Finely grind the oats to a powder/flour consistency and set aside. {You can use a blender, food processor or a Magic Bullet type of appliance.}
  2. Over a low heat, melt the coconut oil in a pan until it has a liquid consistency.
  3. Add in a few drops of Rosemary Oil. {If you are adding it.}
  4. Add ground oats in the pan and mix until well blended.
  5. Now, pour the olive oil into the mixture until blended.

{This is what it will look like once all items are added…}

6. Once all ingredients are mixed, remove from heat and pour in to a small storage container. {It filled up 1 1/2 baby food jars.} Let it harden for several hours.

Now that your recipe is complete… Apply to hands and skin as needed and feel the magic at work! ;-) This recipe lasts for a long period of time so enjoy!

  • WHY OATS? Oatmeal contains healthy fats. When they come into contact with your skin, these fats help to add moisture to soften and repair your skin.
  • WHY COCONUT OIL? Coconut oil works wonders as a moisturizer for all skin types, especially dry skin and aging skin, leaving you refreshed and looking wide-awake. The fat in the oil helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles without any irritation.
  • WHY OLIVE OIL? It is a great skin moisturizer, in part because it contains linoleic acid, a compound not made by the body, but which prevents water from evaporating.
  • WHY ROSEMARY OIL? Rosemary essential helps in toning your skin and removing dryness.

How nice would it be to just be able to pluck fresh green onions from the soil whenever you need them? Nothing beats fresh onions for your salads, dips or soup. But how can you ensure a supply of fresh onions at hand all the time?

Sure, onions are available all year round from the supermarket, but they are hardly fresh and there’s almost always no way to know for sure where they came from.

Gardeners of course will simply grow them but some simply have problems with available space.

I came across an image of spring onions grown vertically on the windowsill, using a common 5 Liter PET bottle, which I thought was a practical, space-saving and green way to grow onions. I posted the image on our Facebook Page and a few people asked how it was done…

onions

…and since I was curious myself, I did a bit of research and this is what I found:

FIRST, you need a planting vessel:

plastic bottles

NEXT, you need to remove the neck of the bottle then cut holes around it. You can use a scissor or a heated metal tool to make the holes. Make sure the holes are just the right for the onion bulbs.

CUT BOTTLE

NEXT, fill the bottle with layers of onion sprouts and soil.

Keep adding layers until you reach the top of the container.

NEXT, water it…

WATER

AND FINALLY, set it on your windowsill…

And watch daily as your onions grow…

In no time, you’ll have something like this:

So the next time you want to add some garnish to your food, sweet spice to your soup, to whip up a savory dish or to make a nice, crunchy salad, all you’ll need to do is pluck some from your vertical onion garden.

And you don’t even have to worry about storing them.

DIY: fix scratches in wood furniture

DIY: fix wood scratches

A few weeks ago I read this post at Lily & Thistle about a DIY for fixing scratched furniture. It seemed too good to be true! She claimed that she used a mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 3/4 cup olive oil and magically got rid of the scratches in a piece of thrift store furniture.

I knew I was going to try it, though! See, I have this table:

my preciousssss…

My husband hates it, but I just adore it! I have a small large obsession for vintage modern furniture, and this is one of my favorite pieces I’ve collected (He calls them my “ugly grandpa furniture.” What does he know about style? Bah!). But in this case, he’s kind of right. As much as I love it, it’s in really bad shape on the top. Check it out:

I’ve tried furniture polish and orange oil, and nothing really makes it look much better. It was sitting forlornly in our garage waiting for me to decide if it was worth keeping, so I figured I’d give this magical trick a try as a last ditch effort.

I mixed about 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/2 cup of olive oil, because I didn’t have enough Olive Oil and it still worked! Check it out:

I took a kitchen rag and just dipped it in and rubbed it on. I kept going until I had gone over the whole table and used almost all of the mixture. I was shocked! It really worked! The scratches were fixed! My “grandpa table” now looks like this:

Let’s just do a little side by side comparison, shall we? I think this deserves it’s own montage. Try and imagine Rocky music in your head for me as we watch the transformation:

Berry Water

I was at an event and the hostess made a punch with a fruit ring.. I took some of the  frozen fruit and added them to my apple cinnamon water. The results were very tasty.

Mix together a few Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and any other berries or fruit pieces together in some juice or water.

Pour into ice cube trays or other suitable small holders and freeze.. Add one or two to your favorite water.

These would be tasty in juice too.

After you are finished with the water be sure to eat all the remaining fruit for additional fruit and fiber..

How To Make An “Herbal Home Remedy” Kit : also: Banana Peel for great skin..

Go to the Underground Health page:: —  http://www.undergroundhealth.com/how-to-make-an-herbal-home-remedy-kit/

In addition I will share that every time I eat a banana, I take part of the skin and rub the inside of the peel all over my face and hands. If I using them in a recipe and have a few peels I made this concoction:

Ingredients:

Banana peels

Filtered water

Lemon juice..

Directions:

Cut peel into small pieces and add about 2 Tablespoons of filtered water in the large Magic Bullet jar.

Mix until nearly smooth.

Add the juice of one lemon. Continue mixing until smooth..

Apply to your face and hands..

Store thr rest in a clean glass jar in the refrigerator.. It will keep for a few days..

Then eat another banana and make a new batch..

If you want you may cut up the peels and freeze them to make a body moisturizer at a later date..
